How We Work

All vulnerable children, youth and adults deserve equal access to education, medical care, employment opportunities, economic prosperity and representation. With these needs met, they can more effectively break the chains of poverty in their lives.

Compassion is actively increasing its gender equality and social inclusion (GESI) work, hiring program design specialists dedicated to GESI at multiple levels. This effort and the following are critical parts of our strategy to weave GESI into the fabric of our work.

  • Conducting GESI studies: These studies provide critical insights into the state of gender equality and social inclusion within our organization. The findings have been instrumental in shaping future directions for Compassion on gender equality and disability.
  • Breaking down barriers that hinder equal opportunities: Compassion empowers girls through education and helps children with disabilities gain access to support and vocational training.
  • Building partnerships: We’re actively partnering with organizations to implement GESI initiatives. For example, we partner with Tearfund by implementing their Transforming Masculinities curriculum. This curriculum addresses sexual- and gender-based violence by equipping staff and local church partners with tools to help communities prevent violence and integrate needed GESI interventions.
