Compassion has been forced to close our program in India after nearly 50 years. Join us in praying for the children, families and churches who have lost our support.
Despite improvements, there are still 8.1 million children out of school in India. India continues to face challenges in providing quality education for all children, lacking trained teachers and adequate school buildings. Cultural beliefs and the need to survive among many impoverished Indian families also force children out of school. Young teen girls often drop out to marry, and many children engage in child labor to earn a meager amount to help their families eat.
Pray that parents, especially those of girls, will value education for their children so that they will be encouraged to attend school and not fall behind in their studies.
Just 40 percent of Indian adolescents attend secondary school. Pray that both teens and their parents will understand the importance of finishing school.
Pray that India will continue to invest in training teachers so children can have a quality education to prepare them for the future.
