In this pre-pandemic photo, 7-year-old Vinka shares a laugh with friends inspired by a book borrowed from her Compassion center’s library. The library is part of the center’s efforts to ensure the children it serves excel in literacy skills. Even during the pandemic, center staff is encouraging children to keep reading, an especially important pursuit for children like Vinka who have big goals for the future. “I want to be a doctor,” she says.
