Youth Development Helps Young People Like Pedro

Pedro lives in a community in Nicaragua where teenagers are exposed, even from a young age, to dangerous influences from gangs and vices like drugs and alcohol.

But Pedro’s Compassion child development center has a Youth Development program that protects children from these influences. The church-based staff and volunteers equip teens with skills to empower them and make them agents of change with a different attitude toward their futures. Pedro was able to attend vocational training to learn how to make hammocks — a skill he’s found he really enjoys.

“I really like this workshop. I could use this knowledge to start my own hammock business,” he says. “I still find knots complicated, but I’m practicing!”

Your gifts help teenagers like Pedro to realize their potential and make a positive impact on their families, friends and surrounding communities!
