Christmas Spirit and the Christmas Season
The Christmas season is marked by houses and Christmas trees decked in colorful lights. Doors get decorated with elaborate wreaths, and pots of bright red poinsettias appear everywhere.
Families grab Angel Tree tags, shop for children’s toys to fill their Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes and make monetary donations to Christmas charities that fulfill the wishes of children hoping the season will have something special for them.
Wrapping paper, Christmas cards, candy canes and gift cards fly off store shelves to be enjoyed on Christmas morning. The Salvation Army bell ringers peal in Christmastime next to their red kettles. Marine Corps’ Toys for Tots boxes collect new toys to spread Christmas cheer and smiles. Church choirs and carolers perform and sing Christmas songs celebrating Christ’s birth, jolly old Saint Nick, and general winter warmth and coziness.
Along with the many sounds, scents and Santa sightings of the holiday season, kindness and generosity become more evident and abundant as well. People gather with friends and family laughing, exchanging gifts and wanting to help others in the spirit of the season.
Local community food banks and pantries are blessed with generous donations and extra Christmas assistance. People give from their abundance and donate time, money and possessions to charity. They give the gifts of love, caring and friendship in the spirit of Jesus.
Compassion Is a Christmas Charity
Compassion International, a leading children’s charity and the world’s authority in holistic child development through sponsorship, works year-round to release children from poverty in Jesus’ name.
Since 1952, Compassion has carefully blended physical, social, economic and spiritual care and development together in its programs for low-income children living in extreme poverty. And it’s all done in Jesus’ name.
Compassion is a Christ-centered, church-driven and child-focused nonprofit organization, which makes it an ideal Christmas charity to provide the blessings of Christ to less fortunate children at Christmastime.
Jesus’ life and teachings shape Compassion’s programs, reflect the spiritual commitments of its staff and help create a distinct ministry approach to fighting poverty and helping low-income families at Christmastime and year-round.
Christ-Centered
We love Jesus, and we demonstrate our love and live out our faith by extending care to others in his name — irrespective of caste, creed, class or religion. All of our Christmas charity work is done 365 days a year in accord with the teaching of Jesus to love God and love our neighbor as ourselves (Matthew 22:36-40, NIV).
Church-Driven
We serve in partnership with thousands of local churches around the world to create stable environments in the lives of children in poverty. Our frontline church partners display God’s love in numerous tangible ways, including but not limited to providing Christmas gifts to children in the Child Sponsorship Program.
Child-Focused
We fight poverty personally. Child sponsorship and child development through Compassion is all about the individual child. When a child is registered in our program the beneficiary of the support is the specific sponsored child. Each child receives the holistic care he or she deserves to help make God’s plan for his or her life a reality.
