While we encourage you to host in your home church, sometimes that’s not a possibility. Compassion Sunday can work well in other settings like Bible studies, small group meetings, Sunday school classes, school classrooms, book clubs or any other group.

As many as you can! Of course, it depends on the size of your church, but we’ve found that on average five children get sponsored at an event. The main thing to remember is to leave all the results up to God. We need to do our best and fully trust him to work.

Once you register your event, we’ll send you an Event Kit in the mail. The kit has everything you need for a great Compassion Sunday at your church. It includes posters, a tabletop display, information sheets, child packets and an instruction guide with a helpful event checklist. Plus, it’ll have one of the new Compassion Sunday T-shirts!

Place the acceptance forms and payments in the prepaid FedEx envelope supplied with the Event Kit. Fill out the address label and contact fedex.com for a pickup, or drop the package off at the nearest FedEx location as soon as you can after the event.

Choose a child who shares a birthday with you or a loved one. Choose a child who’s the same age as your child. Or choose a child from a country you’ve visited or would like to visit.

Sponsorship begins when the first payment is processed at Compassion (approximately 10 days after the forms are mailed back to Compassion).

Ideally until the child is between the ages of 18 and 22 (age varies by country).

Yes, your child will write to you at least twice a year. They may send letters up to six times, depending on how often you write.

Two to four months after sponsorship begins.

You will receive a monthly statement from Compassion.

You can send letters to your child through the mail, our online letter writing tool or the mobile app. Feel free to send letters as often as you’d like!

Yes, each child has just one sponsor.

Yes, you can send monetary gifts. But please note that we cannot send physical gifts to your child. Your gift must be monetary — and the money will be used to buy a gift for your child in-country. Learn more about gifts here.
