As a child, Levi lived in a small home in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, with his mother and older brother. He vividly remembers going to the market to exchange glass bottles for money so he could buy food. Looking back, he can laugh at the memory of only having one pair of shoes. Because he had to wear them for school, church and every other activity, they eventually wore through. Since he couldn't afford another pair, Levi covered the soles in cardboard and had to jump over puddles whenever it rained.
But when Levi's mom learned about the Compassion center through his local church and registered him, his life changed in many ways. He attended the Compassion center, where he got to spend time with other kids and enjoy the safe environment — and always receive food to eat! Through Compassion's program, he grew spiritually, especially through his sponsors' letters. Levi felt that they discipled him from afar as they always shared Bible verses and prayed for him.
Now, Levi is married to his wife Kenia and is in college for audio engineering and music production. He also serves at his church, living out his passion to influence others as someone influenced him. Levi is empathetic, optimistic and gifted in connecting with people. He loves sharing his story with all audiences to show how young people like him can make a difference wherever God has them.
