We Always Fall Short

If Jesus was such a good person, why did He have to die?
Jesus lived a perfect life, so it may seem strange to you that it was God’s plan for Him to die. Jesus’ death on the cross is the way God chose to save sinners who believe in Him.

All people are sinners. Romans 3:23 says, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Everyone has done wrong. God is perfectly holy and we can’t compare with His holiness. We will always fall short.

Let’s pretend that I wanted to stand on the roof of my house and throw a ball clear to the Empire State Building in New York City, hitting right on the tip of the roof. Do you think I could do that? Well, I’m pretty strong, but the Empire State Building is really far away! Even if I tried a billion times, I would always fall short. That’s how it is with God’s glory and perfection. We will always fall short because we have sin. God’s Word tells us that the penalty for our sin is death (Romans 6:23) or eternal separation from God.

God loves us so much that He came up with a solution! He sent Jesus, His sinless Son, to earth to die for us in our place. There was no other way for us to be saved from our sin. That’s why Jesus died on the cross for you. He loved us that much! During this Passion Week, we can celebrate that love!
