Helping Children Experience a Fulfilling Christian Life
Appalled by the great number of small, shivering and starving war orphans on the streets of South Korea in 1952, Rev. Everett Swanson began discussing the orphans' needs in his revival meetings, and Christians responded.
Since that time, Compassion has worked to call out the fullest potential of children living in poverty and help them develop into all God intends them to be.
Compassion is proud to be one of the best rated Christian charities, according to charity evaluators and watchdogs.
We’re also one of the largest Christian charities in existence — helping over 2 million babies, children and young adults in 29 countries!
We work primarily through child sponsorship to release children from poverty in Jesus' name and help them become fulfilled Christian adults, each child in our Child Sponsorship Program grows and develops spiritually, socially, physically and economically. In the program, each child has one sponsor at a time and is the direct beneficiary of your support.
Partnering With Local Churches Around the World
Through local church partners across the globe, children registered in our sponsorship program receive medical checkups and health care, as well as hygiene training.
Our church partners identify the most vulnerable children in their communities — the poorest of the poor — to invest in and help. In addition to health and medical assistance, registered children also receive ongoing Christian training and academic assistance.
This assistance includes textbooks, school uniforms, post-secondary courses, tutoring, test and lab supplies, and even literacy and financial training for the children's caregivers.
Another area of assistance is key life-skills training, mentoring and vocational programs — helping provide trade skills and lifelong income potential.
Sponsorship also provides nutritious food and supplements to protect against malnutrition, recreational activities to develop self-confidence and social skills, and protection from crime, human trafficking, violence and danger.
In addition to our Child Sponsorship Program, Compassion also has specific donor initiatives to help babies and mothers in poverty and develop future leaders.
Other initiatives meet critical needs, including but not limited to clean water and proper sanitation, lifesaving surgeries, other medical needs and disaster relief services.
