After Maria left her abusive marriage, she and her children ended up sleeping on the streets of Nicaragua. Her son Edwin recalls, “I remember that nights were worse than the days. They were very cold and, even with our blankets, we couldn’t stop shivering.” When a tutor at the children’s Compassion center learned that they had no home, she stepped in.
